It’s no secret that us Charlestonians aren’t fans of cold weather. As spring approaches, we finally shed our layers of winter coats and emerge from our homes to soak up the sunshine and warm breeze. While there are endless opportunities in Charleston to enjoy the beauty of the season outside, we love the idea of bringing that fresh springtime feeling indoors. That’s why we’ve put together our top tips on updating and decorating your home for the spring:
Spring Clean (and Organize)
Cleaning is often the first thing that comes to mind when we think about refreshing our homes for spring, and for good reason. Now that the cold weather is behind us, it’s time to grab the rubber gloves, channel your inner Marie Kondo and make your home a blank canvas for the new season! Scrub the counters and floors, wash the windows, empty your closets of those unused items, organize the pantry, and (finally) put away the last of that Christmas decor. Trust us, afterward, you and your home will both feel lighter!
Welcome in more natural light
Speaking of feeling lighter, spring means it’s time to open up those windows and blinds and let in the sunlight! Incorporating more natural light into your home can help boost your mood, give you more energy, and breathe new life into any living space. Some easy ways to bring more sunlight into your home include: rearranging furniture, adding more mirrors, replacing window treatments, and repainting with brighter colors.
Lighten up your linens
While we love the heavy textures and rich colors of winter, warmer weather means lighter linens. Store those heavy wool rugs and thick curtains for now and replace them with sheer, airy linen curtains and a colorful shag or neutral seagrass rug. Refresh furniture with white or other light neutral cotton slipcovers and toss around some bright pastel throw pillows.
Decorate your door
Greet your guests and the new season with some fresh front door and entryway decor! Replace that winter wreath with one made of magnolias, tulips, boxwood, or even dried hydrangeas from last year. Pick a cheerful paint color to refresh the outside of your door (we love this pale blue). While you’re at it, stock up one a springy umbrella or two to leave by the door for those April showers and put down a new, fun welcome mat if your winter one is looking a bit worn.
Bring in fresh flowers
One of our favorite parts of spring is the abundance of beautiful blooms. From tulips to peonies, there’s nothing quite like a hand-crafted spring bouquet in your home. Vibrant pinks, oranges, yellows, and purples pop in many of our springtime bouquets, such as our Eastwood, Seasonal Garden Mix, and Vintage Hobnail arrangements. After a dreary winter, we won’t judge if you want a bouquet in every room!
With these easy tips, your home will feel like spring has just sprung every day, and even keep you feeling bright when the rainy days come too. Don’t forget to come by Charleston Flower Market to see all the colorful new spring gifts and arrangements we’ve got in!
