ABOUT CHARLESTON FLOWER MARKET
Hi!
I'm Louise, owner of Charleston Flower Market and one of its original founders from our farmer's market days. I love this business, my employees and the atmosphere here at the flower and gift boutique we created. We aren't your typical florist or floral shop - no carnations or mums here and none of those stiff formal triangle arrangements stuffed in plastic bowls. What you will find is an amazing selection of seasonal cut flowers (whatever the farms are growing that are special or just beautiful). The selection and varieties change all the time so there is always something new. If you get a chance, come by the shop. We would love to meet you!
OUR STORY
(A BRIEF VERSION)
I grew up on a farm on Wadmalaw Island (about 30 minutes from Charleston). As the daughter of a tomato farmer, I guess you can say "dirt runs in my veins". Growing up my Dad kept my sister and I busy and out of trouble in the summer by growing, picking, and selling vegetables. It wasn't until many years later that I began growing cut flowers and selling them at the farmer's markets. The flowers began taking the place of the vegetables and soon we were growing, shipping, and selling over 20 acres of specialty cut flowers. From there, the idea for Charleston Flower Market was born - a place to sell, create, and show off all those beautiful flowers grown on the farm and by small farmers all over the country and world.
OUR FLOWERS
Although we are no longer able to grow cut flowers, we still buy from many of the small farmers we met in our beginning. We sell everyday flowers like hydrangeas and roses alongside the specialty, seasonal flowers from farms in South Carolina, North Carolina, California, Oregon, Wisconsin, and Vermont. We love anything new, unique and beautiful in the flower world and it is these little known garden gems that make up our signature garden style arrangements. We have always believed that cut flowers don't have to be a luxury item and it has been our goal to make flowers affordable by buying direct from the farms and turning over the product very quickly by offering it at fair prices.
OUR OPEN CONCEPT
If you visit our shop, the first thing you will notice is that this is not your typical florist shop. On any given day you can watch the fresh flowers coming in from the airport as they are unpacked, processed, and prepped for sale. You can walk inside our cooler and pick out your own flowers or you can watch and talk to our designers as they put together arrangements and bouquets. This is a "real" flower shop with leaves on the design floor, boxes of flowers waiting to be unpacked, and buckets of water ready to hydrate thirsty blooms.
OUR STYLE
I like to describe our arrangements as organic, rustic and elegant with a twist. Our signature seasonal mixes are arranged with a "just picked from the garden", natural style in glass vases of varying shapes and sizes. For our other designs we draw inspiration from the containers, vases, or from the flowers themselves. Rustic wooden boxes, silver julep cups, and ceramic pots are some of our favorites, as well as some of the more uniquely creative whimsical containers we find or create. We constantly challenge ourselves to come up with new designs, packaging, and ideas.
OUR TRADEMARK BOX
It all started with trying to solve this problem - "How are our customers going to get our arrangements home?" If you have ever tried to drive a car with one hand while holding on to a vase of flowers with the other or tried to wedge a vase between some stuff in your car, you know what I'm talking about. So we designed a box to do just that and have used it since the day we opened. Not only is it great at doing its job, it makes for a beautiful presentation every time. In fact, sometimes people like the box so much they leave the arrangement in it. We know i'ts pretty and all, but we really prefer you to take it out - we promise you'll love it!
